I bought this to upgrade my netbook. Have a 904HA already.
This is really super with the USB 3.0, Bluetooth 3.0 and 250G HD. Love the finish, and size 1018P is smaller that the 8.9 904HA.
Cons: real small a/c adapter plug. very fragile. Windows 7 Starter leaves a lot to be desired, and is only 32Bit. Only 4 stars because of this. With a dual core possessor you would think they could come up with a 64Bit system. Asus has a bad habit of partitioning the hard drive into a couple of pieces... Will straighten that out when I install Win7 pro 64bit.
Other Thoughts: Combo deal with 2 gig ram chip and case was a great one... Case is very nicely made and holds power supply and net-book. Would recommend this unit to anyone needing a great little travel machine.... Streams NetFlix with no problem...
Update: Installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS. after digging around found all drivers needed. Machine runs super. Also installed a 750 gig WD 7200rpm Hard drive. This thing runs like a full size laptop now.

This is a very nice netbook! First the good:
Fastest and thinnest netbook I've used. It can multitask quite well. Videos play very smoothly, boots up very quickly. I use it for programming on the go and it can handle big IDEs and large office programs like netbeans and openoffice without ever hanging. I'm glad to have usb3.0, it is extremely fast and great for copying large files from here to my desktop. Haven't had the opportunity to take advantage of the wireless N or bluetooth 3.0, but I'm sure they are fast as well. I love that I get 8 hours of battery life yet the battery doesn't stick out of the bottom like most other netbooks. It is so light and thin, I barely notice it in my backpack. I can type just as easily on this laptop than any 15 inch model (as long as I don't need a 10-key). The screen looks great, I would certainly categorise it as a matte screen. I only booted into Windows twice before I wiped the hard drive and installed linux, but there didn't seem to be much bloatware on the original install. The extra asus programs that were added seemed like they would be useful to a windows power user. It includes fast access to the asus cloud storage and a few other neat utilities. The netbook seems very solid, I think it is really built to last.
The bad:
The buttons on the touch pad are very very stiff. You have to press surprisingly hard, but this will probably get easier with just a little bit of use. I had planned to dual boot and leave the windows installation, but it had partitioned the hard drive very stupidly. It creates two 100 GB partitions and wastes the other 50 GB on a boot partition and for the instant access. It boots a full installation of Ubuntu in less than 35 seconds, how more instant do you need? It did not take me long decide I needed to reclaim all of that wasted space. My biggest complaint is the power adapter. The tip is super tiny and super fragile. I'm very worried that it will short out fairly soon, but only time will tell.
So in short, it is perfect in nearly every way, the only things I would change are the power adapter, bring back the aluminum chasis, and lose the bad partitioning scheme. I blame windows for the partitioning scheme, so I can't really hold that against asus. A Backlit keyboard would also be cool but for this price I can't think of anything nicer.

Aesthetically, I love the ASUS Eee PC 1018P. The surface texture has a grain to it that resists fingerprints and looks stylish. It's compact, lightweight and easy to cart around. The display is bright and crisp. The keyboard has great response. The scroll slider on the touchpad is brilliant design. The touchpad click is rather stiff so clicking and dragging is difficult. I hope there is some easier way to do that without a mouse. I upgraded to Windows 7 professional which was easy albeit pricey considering the price of the computer. Windows 7 Starter seems like a bit of a scam. If I'd known, I would have searched for a system already installed with an upgraded OS. Don't expect to install software from a disc. Keep that in mind. It is what it claims to be. My complaint with it is this: the power cord! It's bulky. For a computer that is intended to be ultra portable you would have thought that ASUS would supply a minimalist power cord. The cord is in 2 parts and folded carefully takes up almost as much space as the darn computer. That really bums me out. The 1015 model has more battery options for extended battery life. There are so many models of the Eee it's hard to sort them all out. Their website allows you to do side-by-side comparisons so check in there first to make sure you're getting the model that suits your needs. I'm pleased with my purchase but I can't help thinking that maybe there was another model that may have been better. High marks overall if you just ignore the fact that there are so many other options in a netbook.
