Pow' R' Kraft 65575 Review
Pow' R' Kraft 65575 Review by R. Brooks "22Tango" (Central, TEXAS)
The most difficult part of owning this, is unloading it from the freight truck, when it shows up at your house. Luckily for me, I'm on a farm and had my front-loader on my tractor to move this around, but two men can lift this and set the box where needed. My box was damaged when it arrived. A large hole had been poked into the side, but the log-splitter is well-built and was undamaged. The inside packing was more than adequate. One of the reasons I ordered this log splitter over the smaller one sold on Amazon was the smaller splitter had bad reviews about the box it came in. Not to worry with the Pow'R'Kraft. It had large foam blocks on each end and was packaged very well.
I'm also delighted I spent the extra $$ for this model and not the smaller one, because the Pow'R'Kraft impressed me with how "heavy-duty" it appears. And, it indeed splits some very big chunks of wood. I've been splitting very dense and hard Texas Mesquite and Pecan. I call this "My Little Yellow Beast."
I also like the fact that even though the ends of many of the logs I have split were not cut at a 90 degree angle, the logs ride in the work-table and don't slip out. I was at first concerned the logs needed to be a perfect 90 degree cut, but no real problem, only a minor adjustment might be needed on logs cut at bad angles.
One thing you might need is a table to put this splitter on. The unit comes with wheels to allow it to be rolled around, but at my place, I didn't think the wheels were large enough to negotiate the rough turf outside my barn and near my wood pile. I elected to go to Tractor Supply and buy a 4-wheel cart (costing me $100.00 ) The cart has sides and ends that fold down and elevates the splitter to a height where I don't have to ruin my back in order to bend down so low to work the splitter. If you elect roll this splitter on it's own wheels, you might have a hard time getting them across expansion joints in concrete surfaces. My cart makes it easy to pull the splitter out of my barn to the wood pile, split the logs horizontally and then return the splitter to the barn to keep it out of bad weather. Trust me, you'll be happy if you elevate this splitter of the ground and a cart makes it easy to work with. (Tractor Supply had three carts, one for $69, mine was $99 and they had a more expensive one that was "overkill" for I believe $129...) The carts too are made in China (hey isn't everything these days?) and requires some assembly, but believe me, the cart is wonderful and I think splitting wood horizontally is easire than doing it vertically.
I believe all log splitters require the use of two hands in order to operate. This is probably a safety feature. On this splitter, my right hand engages a small button underneath the ram device that basically turns the unit on, and my left hand operates a lever that makes the ram move thus forces the log onto the cutting block.
The instructions show having to turn a screw on the end of the unit PRIOR to operating it for the first time. However, it IS NOT a screw, but a plastic looking "wing-nut." It took me a while to determine that someone in China drew the wrong picture. It is critical to open this "wing-nut" in order to allow air to escape from the cylinder when the ram is being moved forward while splitting. If you ever move the splitter into a vertical position, or ship it, you'll need to screw the wing-nut back in so oil won't leak out of the cylinder.
This is one tough little "fireball" and I actually had a fun time using it to split wood. The manual isn't too bad, considering it was written in China, but the diagrams work and the instructions are straight-forward (except for the bleed valve vent that is a "wing-nut" and not a screw.)

I`m real excited about this purchase. I only wish it was made in the USA (made in China.)
Over the last 4 years I`ve been hoarding logs from cut down trees on my heavily wooded property. I invested in a good chainsaw( Husky 450 ) but lots of the logs I had were way too big to just chainsaw into pieces that would fit my wood stove insert.
So in late 09` I began looking in to a log splitter. I knew I wanted one that would not use gasoline ( just my preference,)and hoped to buy a model a friend had bought made in the USA which needed a separate compressor to power the hydraulic splitter.
But after lots of internet research about price, reviews etc, I decided to switch gears and buy an all in one electric splitter-no gas,no external compressor needed.
All roads led me to this Pow R Craft 7 ton model.
The unit was purchased from Amazon and delivered to my doorstep for 519 dollars.
I found the price with delivery more than reasonable since Amazon waved the shipping fee completely ! And the box delivered is over 200 pounds or close to it..
On to the Yellow Monster.
It was delivered fully assembled so no worries about bad manuals for instructions.
I was able to wrestle the monster out of the box and place it on my garage floor by myself.
The Pow R Craft model 65575 weighs 172 pounds,is 42" long,11" wide and 20" high.
It has a splitting force of 7 tons. The largest recommended log size for splitting is 12" diameter and 20" length.
The motor which runs the built in compressor on a standard USA outlet 110 v will eat up either 1500 watts or 2300 watts when run at either of the two force levels.
The manual recommends setting up the unit on some kind of work bench for easier use but I find setting up a low chair with the yellow monster on the ground gives me enough comfort to use the controls.
They set up the controls so that you are sitting on the right rear side of the unit. With one hand you control the spring loaded speed-force control lever, and the other hand simply pushes a button on the right side of the motor when ready to split.
With a log in place (and hopefully cut evenly for best results) you start with the lever in the fast(less powerful position) and as the log pusher makes contact with the log, switch over to the more powerful(and slower) position, thus pushing the log in to the wedge and splitting the log.
After three 90 minute sessions with my chainsaw, a sturdy sawhorse for holding logs in place, and the yellow monster taking the final steps, splitting wood into pieces which will keep my heat bill down all winter I can honestly give this unit a full thumbs up !!
It has split wood even wider that the manual says (I`m splitting mostly oak)and has performed perfectly.
There is a convenient handle and wheels for moving inside and outside but you do need to have a reasonable amount of muscle to pick it up and move on your own.I`m only 154 pounds but fit so this is a consideration if alone.
Important notes-there is a bleed screw which MUST be loosened before operation, otherwise the machine will be damaged. I taped a small sticky note on the unit itself so I never forget..Then the screw must be tightened when finished so no hydraulic oil will spill from the tank..
Regarding the oil, they recommend changing the oil(one gallon) every 400 working hours. The units oil is a special hydraulic oil or equivalent.
I am a happy user of this Pow R Craft machine..As I said earlier, I only wish it was made here.
Fully satisfied with the purchase and time will tell if it gives me years of usage, but for now, can`t wait for tomorrow morning when I get it going again !
Pow' R' Kraft 65575 Review by sandy estacio
Based on reviews I'd read prior to ordering this tool, I was anxious to receive my order. It did arrive quickly and well packed. I started it up and split a previously split log, just to make sure it worked before discarding the packaging. When the weekend came, I rolled the unit to the wood pile and went to work. I was hoping to split logs from a recently removed elm tree, and planned to build the suggested stand for the unit later. This unit is so powerless it didn't even try to split most of the logs I put on it. If I started a split with the chain-saw it did a little better, but I spent the most of an hour putting logs on the splitter, trying to split them, then putting them back on the woodpile unsplit, and trying another. The machine gets the least resistance and releases the pressure in the log. We have a small manual compression splitter that works better than this one, at 1/5th the cost. If you have real logs to split, this is not the unit to use.

Pow' R' Kraft 65575 7-Ton 15 amp 2-Speed Electric Log Splitter:: Description
This Pow'R'kraft 7-ton electric log splitter has a dependable 1,500 watt/2,300 watt output electric motor that runs on regular household current with a ground fault breaker that protects against overload. This incredibly designed 2-speed electric motor provides 4-ton force at faster speed and a 7-ton force at a lower speed, with the same single phase motor. As the wood is splitting it requires a high force (lower speed) for a short period, after the wood is split the higher force is not needed. At this point the operator can switch to lower force (faster speed). This electric log splitter will splits wood up to 20-inch long and up to a 12-inch diameter.
